The New Renaissance: A Rebirth of the Soul

Five hundred years ago humanity witnessed a series of events so extraordinary, so miraculous—creatively, socially, politically, even spiritually—that hence forth it has been referred to as ‘The Renaissance’ – meaning a time of “rebirth,” a time of “flowering.” In contrast, the period just before that has come to be viewed as ‘The Dark Ages or Medieval Times.’ What happened within the span of a few generations that caused people to change so profoundly and deeply? And why is it that the word ‘Renaissance’ is shrouded in an aura of awe, aspiration, and inspiration?

These are fascinating questions, but why should anyone today, five centuries later, really care?

I care because I’m an astrologer. I’m fascinated with cycles and patterns, the deep tissue structures and motivations of our life events. I care because I’m constantly asking myself “What is the significance of this moment?” as I trace the connections of synchronicity, significance, and meaning between the planets and society’s trends or an individual’s life path.

I care because after 30-years of doing readings with thousands of clients from all walks of life, all strata of society I have been lead to a startling line of investigation.

What does it mean that we live today in a time in which the planets are positioned in the exact same pattern they were at the time of the Renaissance?

Are we similarly living in a time of extraordinary and miraculous change — creatively, socially, politically, even spiritually?

Are we in the midst of our own rebirth?

As I prepare a chart for another reading I ask myself, “What is the significance of this moment?” That’s the paramount question I start with, and then ask again and again until the answer comes and the client’s birth chart shines through with a gestalt of meaning. Then I struggle to find the words that will connect me to their significance — an illumination, a mythic story or fairy tale suggested by the unfolding horoscope. If I present their life pattern with the right nuance I can often get the client to move outside the ego, beyond the Sun sign, and move to the realm of their Soul to experience more meaningful relationships, creativity, understanding and true community.

Soul. Ego. Renaissance. Relationship. Mythos. Archetype. Personal. Transpersonal. Individuation. Multidimension. Blossoming. Transhumanizing. Physical. Metaphysical.
Macrocosm. Microcosm.

These are among the words that frame my thinking, words I have used and deconstructed over the years, honing and pushing out the boundaries of a unique, probing, and challenging style of astrology reading.

Astrology is more than something I do. It’s more than the way I earn my living. Astrology is a profound quest for “rebirth”. I try to help clients see the Soul intelligence always moving through them and the events of their lives. The language of astrology is a symbolic language, and like the language of myth, it is both ancient and contemporary, initiatory and prophetic all at once. We resonate with the sounds these symbols make as we speak them out loud. They make sense to us on a subatomic level. Identifying the right significance for a client at the right time illuminates the ego profile. And the Soul is right there waiting to overwhelm the ego and provide us with the larger context of our life.

“What is the significance of our collective experience, now?”

For me and the many clients I work with, it’s mostly about “rebirth”. That’s been our mythos. That’s the story from which we emerge. And, that’s the focus and the purpose of this web site — to reveal and explore the Renaissance (R|2) Astrology mythos

We are in a brief window right now, a Renaissance portal (1950-2032). Thirty- or 40-years at full power (1990-2030). It’s an extraordinary “rebirth” moment, part of a 492-year cycle. The last time a similar moment was upon us (1460-1540) humanity witnessed a Renaissance flowering in Europe, Central America, and China. People shared ideas that had never before been spoken out loud. Big ideas, like the earth revolves around the sun. Dangerous ideas for the time.

As I stand in the threshold of the twenty-first century and look back, as well as forward it’s becoming increasingly evident that today we’re living in a period of spiritual renewal. Just as the Renaissance (R1) of five hundred years ago was marked by a sudden, dramatic extension of physical exploration and an equally profound extension of perception leading to a spectacular flowering of the arts and sciences, so now again in R|2 we are witnessing the simultaneous expansion of our world in both outer and inner directions.

Emerging out of the darkness of the machine-dominated industrial age into the speed and brilliance of the digital epoch, we have for the first time physically left Earth’s gravity field and reached for the stars.

At the same time, enlightened with a new clarity of perception, we face with amazement the vast, unexplored interior spaces that open up beyond the hitherto accepted yet artificially created boundaries of Soul-body consciousness.

This New Renaissance (R|2) greatly exceeds the old in range and depth, for it is no longer a question of simply expanding our inner and outer horizons. We’re in the process of completing a cycle at one level and transitioning to a higher octave. The era of partial views and of divisive ideas and ideologies is waning.

If R1 was the glorification of the ego, then R|2 is about the Soul.
If R1 was about the individual, then R|2 is about community and ‘wholeness.’

The vision of the unity of our physical and spiritual world is being repeatedly proclaimed to us. And, it’s this larger context that holds the center for me.

The first photographs of the whole earth sent back from space signaled the beginning of the new cycle of all-inclusiveness. … There she hung like a blue-green jewel in the velvet black of deep space, laced with sparkling atmospheric veils — our spaceship, our mother, our planet. The world as One. We are all together now, bound by a collective Soul destiny.

The exquisite language of astrology and its cycles of “rebirth,” has become one of humanity’s most powerful tools of discovery. Through this ancient symbolism we have access to a rich and rewarding and absolutely contemporary instruction manual for navigating our way through modern life. And that includes the relationships we seek and have in life, be they karmic, romantic, business, family, community.

By the time I started my astrology apprenticeship, I had studied human consciousness and physics with Ralph Metzner, Jack Sarfatti, Fred Allen Wolf, Michael Murphy, Fritjof Capra, and Gary Zukov – finally culminating in a degree in particle physics from UCLA. My astrology apprenticeship was a three year long study of Dante’s Inferno, Purgatorio, and Paradiso with William Royers to get at the real meaning of astrology, to get past the charts and the transits and the mechanics. When I started seeing clients on my own, it was as though the astrology gods came knocking. I became a channel of client exploration and, in that space, of my own Soul exploration as well.

Every chart I do, the question sits there, “How am I related to this person?”

How is this person’s Soul envisioning significance?

As I begin this web site with the sharing of the Daily Horoscopes (which I hope you’ll subscribe to) and the two blogs—R|2 Star-Zine and R|2 Match—I ask myself, “How are we participating in this time of Renaissance?”

How are you and I personally being “reborn”?

How are we collectively being “reborn”?

These are the things we can discover together.
